ABOUT JANE

MY APPROACH

Hello, I am Jane Arrowsmith, founder of Arrowsmith Piano. I use a customized approach that ensures each lesson is tailored to your specific learning style. This makes it easy and efficient to learn new concepts while keeping the lesson fun for you!

I’ve been teaching for 35 years and I like to steer my teaching business in the direction of what is working best for my students’ learning process. My teaching style is the same in-studio or online.

I provide extensive feedback and optimization of your playing sound, for a variety of musical styles, including Classical, 20th Century, Pop & Rock, Jazz, and Sacred music.

I’ve recently authored a book – “How to Get An “A” on a Grade 8 Piano Exam: A Study Guide for Parents, Teachers, Students Grade 1-8.

EDUCATION
& EXPERIENCE

Early Life

Jane was born in Saskatchewan, and raised in Ottawa.

Her musical interest was apparent at a very early age and nurtured by her parents. Piano lessons began at the age of 6 years, and she performed locally in Ottawa, studying with Dina Namer in her teenage years.

Education

Jane completed a Bachelor's Degree in Music from Ottawa and Carleton, where she studied with International renowned pianists/professors – Christina Petrowska and Andrew Tunis. Jane attained her ARCT (Associateship with the Royal Conservatory of Music, Toronto). Jane accomplished up to RCM Grade 9 Voice.

Qualifications

Jane has taught piano for 35 years in the Kanata/Ottawa area and is a Registered ORMTA teacher. She is a member of the CFMTA, Provincial ORMTA, Ottawa ORMTA and other local associations

We are very thankful to Jane for all her support and dedication, the results of her lessons surpassed all our expectations! We faced the situation when we had to find a new teacher for our son in the middle of level 10. We were lost . There are not many teachers who can prepare a student for a higher level exam and especially those who will take the responsibility of taking a new student of advanced level and lead the way through to the final exam. She has taken my son in the middle of level 10, sorted out and worked hard on all the techniques he needed to acquire and all goals he needed to achieve and successfully took him through to level 10 repertoire exam where he acquired 81%! The exam was an online exam and all the lessons were done online which made more sense. I was a little worried at the beginning but then I saw it didn’t make any difference versus in person lessons and it was much more convenient. My son was always amazed and puzzled how Jane can hear even the smallest slips and see things that in person would  go unnoticed. Our experience of learning with Jane’s online lessons was very positive and brought much better results than the previous in person lessons we had with another teacher. I highly recommend Jane to anyone, she is great at music and has amazing teaching skills, she is professional, compassionate and sincere. She will help your child become successful and instill a passion for music for many years to come. Thank you very much Jane! ~ Kristina Prasad
