Why Online Piano Lessons Work Better Than In-person

Students are learning better online! Here's Why:

I believe in doing what is best for my students’ learning and I have been teaching for 35 years. This means I have a lot of experience to compare things to. Let me explain....

Since going online with COVID, I have been quite surprised and amazed with the results. The student’s do much better online. My piano students always did well with over 80% and trophies, however, with online, they are getting over 90%. The proof is in the exam marks. Students are attaining higher examination marks - over 90%!

If students did better in-studio, then I’d be back teaching in-studio, however, the results show that the online is so much better! The students excel and the parents like it too for many reasons including it's convenience. Here are the top things I have now seen as I have been teaching online:

  1. Students are learning on their instrument! They produce a better sound and gain great confidence on their own instrument!

  2. No adjustment of musical techniques from studio instrument to student’s instrument!

  3. Students’ progress more quickly! Homework notes are sent after class. Also, parents often overhear the class and students are therefore more motivated to do their homework.

  4. Quicker turn-around time! Students can be into another activity within 5 minutes of completing their piano lesson.

  5. Students are more comfortable in their own surroundings and perform better!

  6. No travel time!

  7. No expense in gas and wear and tear on your vehicle!

  8. No wait time!

  9. No time lost due to travel time!

  10. Parents can be utilizing their time during the lessons!

  11. Students never miss a class! If there is illness, bad weather or travelling, students can still take class.

  12. Allows the student more flexibility of lesson scheduling!

  13. Lessons are extremely interactive as if the teacher is in the room with them!

  14. Teacher sees more with respect to posture and fingering at the keyboard!

  15. Webcams are used for demonstration along with verbal direction. My teaching style doesn’t change from studio to online!

  16. Quicker exchanges of demonstrating and student playbacks as the teacher and student are both sitting at keyboards!

  17. Access to the white board for theory, also, importing homework for corrections and importing videos for demonstrations!
